Lead Registered Nurse – Adult Evaluation and Review Services (AERS) Program 1st Choice Corporate Program | Prince George’s County Health Department (PGCHD)
1st Choice is seeking a dedicated and experienced Lead Registered Nurse (RN) to oversee our growing clinical team supporting the Adult Evaluation and Review Services (AERS)
Program in Prince George’s County. This leadership role is essential in helping to address the County’s backlog of assessments and ensuring timely, high-quality care planning for older adults and individuals with disabilities.
The Lead RN will report to the 1st Choice Clinical Program Manager and serve as a key point of coordination between our nurse assessors and the PGCHD program office. The successful candidate will bring Medicaid assessment experience, strong team supervision skills, and a passion for public health initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Oversight
· Supervise and support a multidisciplinary team of 5+ nurses performing AERS assessments.
· Oversee daily case assignments, quality control, and workflow prioritization to support program goals and reduce the assessment backlog.
· Provide mentorship and performance coaching; monitor team productivity and documentation accuracy.
Clinical & Assessment Expertise
· Perform or review comprehensive assessments to determine medical, functional, and psychosocial needs of individuals referred through AERS.
· Ensure assessments align with Medicaid regulations and the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) AERS protocols.
· Provide guidance to assessors on challenging cases and serve as a resource for clinical decision-making.
Coordination with PGCHD and Community Partners
· Act as liaison between 1st Choice and PGCHD to ensure alignment with County expectations, timelines, and reporting requirements.
· Coordinate with physicians, care managers, and social services to facilitate person-centered care planning.
· Support the development and revision of workflows and reporting systems based on county feedback and evolving program needs.
Program & Quality Management
· Monitor assessment quality, timeliness, and outcomes, ensuring compliance with state and local standards.
· Lead quality improvement initiatives to streamline processes and improve client satisfaction.
· Assist with staff training, onboarding, and compliance tracking (including background checks and credentialing).
Qualifications
· Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required. Master’s degree in Nursing or Public Health preferred.
· Licensure: Active, unrestricted Maryland RN license.
· Experience:
o Minimum 5 years of clinical experience, with 2+ years in home health, community health, or Medicaid programs.
o Previous AERS or similar assessment program experience strongly preferred.
o Demonstrated leadership managing teams of 5+ in a clinical or case management setting.
· Skills:
o Deep knowledge of Maryland Medicaid assessment protocols.
o Proficient in electronic systems used for documentation and case tracking.
o Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
