About The Role

Fundamental Research Labs is looking for a Design Engineer to bridge the gap between design and engineering. In this role, you’ll help shape our design system implementation, architect front-end solutions, and ensure seamless user experiences across our products. You'll play a foundational role in shaping how we communicate our vision to build digital humans.

What You'll Do

• Architect and implement complex UI components and systems that balance aesthetics with technical performance
• Create high performance and well-tested React components
• Implement robust Figma designs and craft Fundamental’s visual identity
• Respond to customer support issues and actively work to improve their daily usage of Fundamental’s product suite
• Create prototypes to explore new interaction models and validate design concepts
• Collaborate closely with engineers to bring designs to life with pixel-perfect precision
• Establish best practices for front-end development and component architecture
• Mentor engineers on design principles and implementation techniques
• Develop tools and processes to improve design-to-development workflow
• Contribute to design reviews with a focus on technical feasibility and implementation
• Champion accessible, responsive, and performant user interfaces

About You

• Strong experience in front-end development with a strong design sensibility
• Designs in Figma (we believe traditional design systems slow us down)
• Expert-level knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript
• Deep experience with modern front-end frameworks (React preferred)
• Strong understanding of design systems and component-based architecture
• Experience implementing complex UI animations and interactions
• Proven ability to translate design concepts into production-ready code
• Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with both design and engineering teams
• Experience with accessibility standards and best practices

• Portfolio showcasing your UI/UX design skills (Bonus points if it is a live project you've coded)
• Understanding of what makes AI products like ChatGPT, Midjourney, Perplexity etc successful
• Experience and willingness to write code for your designs.
